Gymkhana Club canceled the membership of Jemima Rodrigues, she had to suffer the consequences of her father's action.
Sports Desk, Obnews: Indian women's cricket team player Jemimah Rodrigues has become a topic of discussion these days. He is being discussed because of his father Ivan. Who are accused of using the club premises for “religious activities”. Due to which now Khar Gymkhana, one of the oldest clubs of Mumbai, has canceled the membership of Indian women's cricket team's leading batsman Jemimah Rodrigues.
The decision to cancel the membership of Jemimah Rodrigues was taken at the annual general body meeting here on Sunday. There was no response to text messages and phone calls made to Jemimah Rodrigues and her father on Monday. After which, confirming the action, Khar Gymkhana President Vivek Devnani told the media, “The honorary three-year membership given to Jemimah Rodrigues was canceled as per the resolution passed by the members participating in the general meeting held on October 20, 2024. “

Khar Gymkhana managing committee member Shiv Malhotra said, “We learned that Jemimah Rodrigues’ father was associated with an organization called Brother Manuel Ministries. He booked Rashtrapati Bhavan for almost one and a half year and organized 35 events. We all know what was happening there.”

Malhotra said, “We hear about conversions all over the country, but it is happening right under our noses. There was dancing and singing, expensive musical equipment, big screens. “As per the bye-laws of the Khar Gymkhana, as per Rule 4A of the Constitution, the Khar Gymkhana does not permit any religious activity.”

Former president of Khar Gymkhana, Nitin Gadekar said, “An employee informed him about this “religious activity”. After which I, Malhotra and some other members went to take stock of it. We saw that the room was dark, trance music was playing and a woman was saying 'he is coming to save us'. I wondered how the gymkhana could allow this in the first place. We protested and a decision was taken to cancel his membership.”
It is noteworthy that Khar Gymkhana had invited Jemimah Rodrigues to become a member and use its facilities in 2023.
