Adani Group has commenced scheduled commercial flight operations from Mundra Airport in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for the company’s aviation business and the Kutch region. The airport has opened passenger services connecting Mundra with four cities, aiming to improve regional connectivity while supporting trade, tourism, and industrial growth.
The development is expected to reduce travel time for business travellers, employees, and tourists visiting one of India’s largest port and industrial regions.
Commercial Operations Begin
The first scheduled commercial flight landed at Mundra Airport on June 23, with regional airline Star Air operating the inaugural service. Initially, the airport will offer direct connectivity to Mumbai, Surat, Goa (Mopa), and Hindon (NCR), while passengers will also have access to onward connections to several other destinations through the airline’s network.
This marks the transition of Mundra Airport from handling primarily private and charter operations to serving scheduled commercial passenger traffic.
Boost for Kutch’s Economy
Mundra is home to India’s largest commercial port and one of the country’s biggest multi-product Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Improved air connectivity is expected to strengthen business travel, facilitate quicker movement of professionals, and enhance access to the region for investors and tourists.
According to the airport operator, commercial flight services will complement the existing port and logistics infrastructure, creating a more integrated transport network for western India.
Industry observers believe that easier air access could also encourage growth in hospitality, tourism, and ancillary businesses across the Kutch region.
Modern Passenger Facilities
The airport has been developed with a 1,900-metre runway capable of handling a range of passenger aircraft. The terminal includes multiple check-in counters, passenger lounges, parking facilities, accessibility features, and food and beverage services.
Airport officials have indicated that additional routes may be introduced in phases depending on passenger demand and airline interest.
Part of Adani’s Aviation Expansion
The launch further expands Adani Group’s presence in India’s airport sector. The company already manages several airports across the country, and the commencement of commercial operations at Mundra adds another aviation asset to its growing portfolio.
The airport is expected to primarily serve industrial employees, business travellers, and visitors heading to Kutch’s tourist destinations, while also supporting long-term regional infrastructure development.
As passenger traffic grows, the airport could witness additional airline participation and expanded domestic connectivity in the coming years, subject to market demand and regulatory approvals.
Improved commercial air services at Mundra are expected to strengthen connectivity for Gujarat’s western coastline while supporting economic activity linked to manufacturing, logistics, exports, and tourism.
