Famous pop singer gets death sentence for insulting Prophet Mohammed in Iran

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of Iran has sentenced famous pop singer, rapper and tattoo artist Aamir Tataloo to death on charges of insulting Prophet Mohammad. Tatalu was charged with crimes including blasphemy, which the court upheld. Tatalu was initially sentenced to five years in prison, but after the prosecutor's objection the case was re-examined and the sentence was changed to death. The Supreme Court said, “Amir Hussain Maghsudlu, commonly known as Amir Tatalu, was earlier sentenced to five years. “But after the prosecutor's objection, the case was reopened, and the investigation found the allegations to be true, proving the charge of insulting the Prophet Mohammed.

Amir Tatalu, 37, was hiding in Istanbul, Turkey since 2018 to avoid arrest in Iran. However, in December 2023, Turkish police arrested him and handed him over to Iran, after which he has been in Iran's custody. Apart from this, Tatalu is also accused of promoting prostitution, spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran and sharing obscene material.
