An incident has come to light from Muzaffarpur city of Bihar which is putting humanity to shame. The video of the cruelty done by a mother to her school-going daughter at Mithanpura Chowk has gone viral on social media, which has incited the anger of the people.
In the video, an innocent girl wearing school dress is seen stumbling on the road carrying a heavy bag. The burden is so much that she is about to fall down again and again and starts crying. When passersby got suspicious and checked the bag, apart from books, they found four bricks inside. Everyone was stunned to see this.
The woman walking near the girl is her mother, who is continuously scolding, abusing and slapping her. On people’s protest, he said, ‘She is my daughter, I can do whatever I want, whoever I want to call, do it.’ When the crowd increased, he slapped the girl hard in the middle of the road and dragged her by her cheek.
There was an uproar on the road. Some people were explaining, while some were consoling the girl. When the mother was asked the reason for the punishment, she said, ‘This is the cure.’ When the dispute escalated, she ran away dragging the girl.
As soon as the video went viral, there was an outcry on social media. People are calling it open child torture and are demanding strict action from the administration. How can assault on an innocent person be tolerated in a public place?
This case is not just for one family but is a wake-up call for the society. It is important to understand the difference between discipline and violence. Now it remains to be seen how the administration ensures the safety of the girl child, conducts an investigation and punishes the culprit. Children’s burden should be of responsibility, not of stones.
