Nagelsmann confirms Nübel will start for Germany against Ghana
Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Alexander Nübel will be given a rare start in goal when Germany face Ghana on Monday.
When Germany face Ghana in a friendly on Monday, Alexander Nübel will start in goal instead of Oliver Baumann, head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed on Sunday.
The 29-year-old is set to earn his third international cap in a familiar setting at the MHPArena, where he usually plays for VfB Stuttgart.
“Alex Nübel will be in goal tomorrow. It’s a reward for the consistently strong performances he has shown at VfB Stuttgart for a long time. Tomorrow he will play his ‘home game’ in Stuttgart,” Nagelsmann said at a press conference.
Despite the change, there is no doubt about Germany’s goalkeeping hierarchy, with Oliver Baumann firmly established as the first choice.
“His role is clear. ‘Oli’ is the number one. He provides strong support, exactly what you expect from a good number two. We have absolutely no problems in the goalkeeping position,” Nagelsmann stressed.
