Bihar: Stampede in Shitala Mata temple in Nalanda, 8 women killed, many injured

Bihar: A major accident took place in Nalanda district of Bihar on Tuesday, where 8 women died due to a sudden stampede in Mata Shitala temple, while more than 12 people are said to be injured. According to the information, the temple is crowded with devotees every Tuesday, but today being the last Tuesday of Chaitra, the crowd was unusually high. Meanwhile, there was chaos in the temple premises and people started pushing each other and moving forward, leading to a stampede.

According to media reports, during the stampede, many women got buried in the crowd, due to which they died on the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital. As soon as information about the incident was received, senior district officials including SDPO reached the spot. However, the clear reason behind the stampede has not been revealed yet.

In some media reports, there is talk of lack of security arrangements and crowd management. According to reports, there was a huge crowd in the temple and there was no organized queue, which led to a scuffle and an accident. After the incident, the temple complex has been evacuated and a large number of police forces have been deployed. It is being told that a fair was also organized in the temple, due to which the crowd had increased further.

After this accident, questions are being raised on the temple administration and local system whether there was any major negligence in security and crowd control. Besides, it is also alleged that the ambulance reached the spot late after the accident. At present, the police administration has taken the situation under control and the entire matter is being investigated.
