New York: In his historic address to the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday that India’s traditional greeting, ‘Namaste,’ has now gained global recognition, evolving from ‘local to global.’ Speaking to the Indian community in the US, the PM expressed his gratitude for their overwhelming support. “Our Namaste has gone multinational, from local to global,” he said, which drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
PM Modi lauds Indians abroad
The Prime Minister praised the contributions of Indians living abroad. He said that wherever they go, they continue to excel and make a huge impact. He said, “Many languages, but one shared emotion—the love for Bharat Mata and Indian identity. This is India’s greatest strength.” PM Modi further said, “No matter where Indians are in the world, we strive to do good and make the most significant contributions wherever we go.”
PM’s US visit
PM Modi is on a three-day visit to the United States from September 21 to 23. Upon his arrival at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, he greeted the Indian diaspora with the chant, “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” As PM Modi entered the venue, he was met with a standing ovation from the crowd. Talented artists from the Indian diaspora performed on stage, setting the perfect tone for his much-anticipated address.
The event, titled “Modi and US,” is a historic moment, with 15,000 members of the Indian diaspora from 42 states gathering at Nassau Coliseum to welcome the Prime Minister. Artists from various groups had been preparing for days and showed traditional music in celebration of his arrival.
Key engagements in New York
Earlier, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi shared pictures from his meeting with members of the Indian diaspora and wrote, ” “After programmes in Delaware, landed in New York. Eager to be among the diaspora at the community programme in the city and to take part in other programmes.” The PM is set to lead important bilateral meetings in New York and participate in a CEO Roundtable later today. Apart from that, he will address the Summit of the Future on September 23.
