Names of 9 metro stations changed in Delhi, see the complete list

The names of many metro stations in Delhi have been changed. The State Names Authority headed by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has changed the names of 9 metro stations. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the public sentiments and local identity.

 

The authority considered proposals for the names of a total of 21 metro stations. Of these, the names of 12 stations have been kept the same, the names of 7 have been slightly changed and the names of 2 stations have been completely changed. This information has been received from the statement of the Chief Minister’s Office.

What was the reason?

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that metro stations are not just places of commuting, but they reflect the identity and culture of the area. Therefore, every name has been finalized after much thought and discussion. Local identity, history, socio-cultural importance and advice of public representatives and citizens were made the basis.

The names changed are as follows:

  • Prashant Vihar → North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar

  • Jagatpur → Jagatpur-Wazirabad

  • Derawal Nagar → Nanak Pyau-Derawal Nagar

  • Khanpur → Khanpur-Vayusenabad

  • Sonia Vihar → Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar

  • Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 → Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar

  • West Enclave → Mangolpur Kalan-West Enclave

completely new names

  • North Pitampura → Haiderpur Village

  • Pitampura → Madhuban Chowk

These names have been kept the same – Majlis Park, Bhalaswa, Haiderpur Badli Mod, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Soodghat, Jharoda Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali and Maujpur-Babarpur.

 

The Chief Minister said that such proposals will be considered in future also, if they are appropriate and in public interest. This change will help in better identification of areas for Delhi Metro passengers. Delhi Metro will now appear more connected to the local culture.
