Namo Bharat will reach from Har Ki Pauri to Laxman Jhula: 150 KM extension from Meerut to Rishikesh, journey will be completed in 3 hours
Namo Bharat train operating between Delhi and Meerut may soon get extended to the religious city of Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. Central governmentThe process in this direction has accelerated after the agreement between the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Government of Uttarakhand and National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). Under the proposed plan, there is a preparation to extend the existing Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor by about 150 kilometers. After this, the journey from Delhi to Rishikesh can be completed in about three hours. This expansion is also considered important for Uttarakhand, because Rishikesh is one of the major religious and tourist centers of the country. The extension of NaMo Bharat Corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
At present Namo Bharat train is operating on about 82 km long corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. After the extension of about 150 kilometers from Meerut to Rishikesh, the total length of this corridor will be about 230 kilometers. The maximum speed of Namo Bharat train is 160 kilometers per hour. Considering this speed, it is estimated that the distance from Delhi to Rishikesh can be covered in about three hours. At present, it takes about 6 hours to reach Rishikesh from Delhi via Meerut by road. After completion of the project the travel time will be reduced to almost half.
According to the Uttarakhand government, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar regarding this proposal and submitted a formal proposal. After this, discussions took place at various levels between the Central and State Governments and now a consensus has been reached to take this project forward. To speed up the scheme, the Uttarakhand government has appointed Additional Secretary Reena Joshi as the nodal officer. Necessary administrative procedures have also been started by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for this ambitious expansion will be initiated. Under this, the proposed 150 kilometer long route will soon be surveyed. On the basis of this survey, the final alignment of the track, location of stations, estimated cost of the project and timeline of construction will be decided. Officials say that considering the technical and geographical conditions, changes in routes or stations are also possible at some places. However, a basic plan has been prepared at the initial stage.
There will be a new route from Meerut to Laxman Jhula
Under the proposed expansion of Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, the new track will start from Modipuram station in Meerut and go to Rishikesh. This corridor will connect many major cities of Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with fast rail connectivity. The probable route includes major places like Daurala, Khatauli, Muzaffarnagar, Purkaji, Roorkee, Haridwar and Har Ki Paidi, after which the train will reach Rishikesh. The last station under the project is proposed in Lakshman Jhula area, which will be developed as a terminus station. In this approximately 150 km long extension, approximately 72 km portion will be in Uttar Pradesh and 78 km portion will be in Uttarakhand. Upon completion of this project, regional transportation and religious tourism is expected to get a major boost.
Pilgrims and tourists will get the biggest benefit
Uttarakhand is one of the major religious and tourist states of the country, where every year lakhs of devotees reach Haridwar, Rishikesh and Chardham Yatra. Apart from this, a large number of tourists from surrounding areas including Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh also visit Uttarakhand. After the proposed Namo Bharat train extension, passengers are expected to get fast, safe and modern rail facilities. This will reduce dependence on roadways and will also provide relief from the problem of traffic jams. Through this project, it will be easier to reach major religious and tourist centers like Haridwar and Rishikesh, which is likely to increase tourism activities.
Employment and investment opportunities will increase
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the proposed Namo Bharat Rail project will not just be a transportation scheme but will become a strong base for the economic development of the state. He said that better connectivity will increase investment in Uttarakhand, promote industrial activities and create new employment opportunities for local youth. Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government is continuously working in coordination with the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh Government and National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to take this project forward rapidly. He said that the government aims to get this ambitious project off the ground as soon as possible, so that the tourism, industry and employment sectors of Uttarakhand can get direct benefits.
Namo Bharat Trains’ Delhi–Meerut corridor is the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, offering a model of fast, modern and high-speed regional rail service. Presently this corridor is connecting many major stations of Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh. This includes major stations like Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, Modinagar North, Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram. Now under the proposed plan, if the expansion of this corridor from Meerut to Rishikesh is completed on time, then there will be a big change in the travel system between Delhi, NCR, Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
