Nasser Hussain compares Kamran Ghulam to Australian legend Steve Smith

Nasser Hussain has lauded Pakistan Test debutant Kamran Ghulam for his hundred on Day 1 of the second Test against England in Multan. The 29-year-old replaced Babar Azam in the playing XI.

Ghulam looked confident against the English bowlers and bailed out his team from a tricky position. The right-handed batter completed his hundred in 192 balls and was dismissed after scoring 118 off 224 balls, laced with 11 fours and a six.

“Pakistan players love the sweep shot, and he has got that in his batting arsenal. He used his feet as well, and he is like Steve Smith when the defense comes into play, and when he has charges down the track. He has got something special,” Nasser Hussain said on SKY Sports.

“Kamran had to wait to play for Pakistan. He has scored runs in domestic cricket and has got the right balance between attack and defense. Pakistan lost two wickets earlier in the innings, and he batted well,” he added.

Kamran Ghulam said he never gave up despite getting a raw deal from the selectors in the past. Before his first Test, he only played in one ODI.

“I was waiting for my chance for a long time, and I never lost hope. I was selected and then dropped from the squads. We had lost two wickets when I came out to bat. I played with a positive mindset. I relied on my natural game,” he said.

“In 59 first-class matches, Kamran Ghulam has scored 4,377 runs at an average of 49.17, including 16 hundreds and 20 fifties.
