Nathan Ellis Replacement Options: Just a few days before IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings has suffered a big blow. It has been reported that Nathan Ellis may be out of action for the entire season due to a hamstring injury.

This Australian fast bowler was the mainstay of death-over bowling for the team last season. The team had released Mathisha Pathirana before the auction, so the responsibility of death-over bowling this season was on the shoulders of Ellis only.

Ellis’ injury means that CSK’s think-tank will now have to look for options who can play this role well. In the current setup of the team, England’s Jamie Overton and Tamil Nadu’s left-arm fast bowler Gurjapaneet Singh could be good options for this role. But, there is also an option to sign a replacement player for the current season, so the team can also consider adding someone from the pool of players included in the auction.

Fazalhaq Farooqui

The Afghan fast bowler has previously played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and has been a regular member of his national team in the T20 format. This left arm fast bowler has taken a total of 6 wickets in 12 IPL matches, but during this period his economy rate has been 10.32.

Gerald Coetzee

South African fast bowler Coetzee has also played for Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in the last two IPL seasons. Apart from this, he has also been a part of the Johannesburg Super Kings team in the SA20 League. However, he has not got a place in the South African team (Proteas) for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This fast bowler has taken a total of 15 wickets in 14 matches and is also very adept at batting in the lower order.

Richard Gleason

Richard Gleeson (left) played only one match for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. He was included in the team as a replacement player. Gleeson played two matches for CSK in 2024, in which he took a total of one wicket. This 38-year-old bowler has also been a part of the Super Kings team in the SA20 League, where he took a total of 9 wickets in 6 matches. This English fast bowler has taken a total of 158 wickets in 136 matches of his career, and during this period his economy rate has been 8.25.

Josh Tongue

English fast bowler Josh Tongue was part of the England team for the T20 World Cup 2026, but he did not get a chance to play a single match. He has not played any T20 International match for his country yet, but he was the leading wicket-taker in the 2025 season of ‘The Hundred’ with 14 wickets in six matches. Including all T20 matches, he has taken 29 wickets in 21 matches at an economy rate of 9.07.
