Nathan Lyon Ruled Out for BBL, Sheffield Shield Season
Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of action for three months and will await further assessment after his hamstring injury during the Third test in the Ashes 2025-26.
Lyon left the field on day 05 of the test against England when he pulled up lame fielding on the boundary.
The offspinner had surgery following the blow and was ruled out for the remainder of the series.
It was confirmed that Cricket Australia that his unavailability would extend into March when the Sheffield Shield season ends.
“Nathan Lyon has sustained a high-grade right hamstring injury for which he underwent successful surgical repair on December 23,” CA’s statement read.
“Nathan has entered an extended period of rehabilitation that will rule him out of the remainder of the domestic season.
“His return to play timeline will be determined at a later date based on his rehabilitation progression over the coming months.”
Nathan Lyon, who was signed to Melbourne Renegades for the BBL 2025-26, will now be missing the action in the Australian T20 league. He will be the second player.
The off-spinner has joined the Renegades ahead of the 2023-24 season on a three-year deal. Nathan Lyon won’t have played a single game in that deal. On the other hand, pacer Josh Hazlewood is on track to play in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after missing the Ashes with a hamstring injury and Achilles Soreness.
Hazlewood has recommended running after the Achilles setback. Pat Cummins is also now planning a period of load management to optimise his recovery from a back injury.
Pat Cumminswho returned to the third Ashes but was ruled out for the rest of the series to reduce the risk of further damage.
He has been given ‘a planned period of load management’ to continue his recovery from back stress that forced him out of the Perth and Brisbane Tests.
