Big win for customers! Rs 45 crore returned in 8 months, curbing the arbitrariness of e-commerce companies

National Consumer Helpline Recovers Rupee 45 Crore: The Department of Consumer Affairs has continuously emphasized on strengthening the customer base. From April 25 to December 26, an amount of Rs 45 crore has been returned to customers in 31 areas. 67,265 complaints related to refund claims on the helpline were effectively resolved in the last 8 months.

Of this, the maximum amount of Rs 32 crore is from the e-commerce sector. The department had received 39,965 complaints against this area. The top five sectors contributed more than 85 percent of the total refunds.

Customers got Rs 3.5 crore back

Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, said that the travel and tourism sector has been in second place. Of these, 4,050 complaints were received under which an amount of Rs 3.5 crore has been refunded to the customers. These complaints of consumers have been received on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH). These complaints reduce the burden on the commissions and the disputes are resolved promptly. According to Khare, the helpline received complaints related to refunds in the e-commerce sector from all corners of the country, which shows its wide reach and accessibility.

Early refund due to NCH’s intervention

Complaints ranged from major metropolises to remote towns and sparsely populated areas. For example, a consumer from Jodhpur e-commerce platform Filed a complaint after receiving defective chairs. The consumer contacted the company, but the pickup was canceled five times. With the intervention of NCH, the matter was resolved immediately and the consumer received a full refund.

The customer from Chennai had canceled the ticket 96 hours before the flight. The company did not process the refund despite repeated requests. Due to prompt intervention of NCH, the customer got the refund. Similarly, in another case in Bengaluru, the customer’s money was returned immediately.

635 complaints against electronic products

A total of 635 complaints were received against electronic products. Rs 1.17 crore was refunded to these customers. Rs 1.34 crore recovered in 957 complaints against agency services. In 668 complaints against the airlines, Rs 95 lakh was recovered to the customers.

Complaints can be lodged in 17 languages

Consumers can lodge complaints in 17 languages ​​through the toll-free number 1915. Complaints can also be made through Ingram. Multiple channels are available for this, including WhatsApp (8800001915), SMS (8800001915), email, NCH app, web portal and Umang app.
