Delhi HC sends notice to Rahul-Sonia in National Herald case, seeks reply on ED’s appeal

National Herald Case: The hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s petition in the National Herald case was held today in the Delhi High Court. In its appeal, ED has challenged the order of the trial court, in which the money laundering complaint against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi was rejected. The bench of Justice Ravinder Dudeja heard this case. The court has sent notice to Rahul and Senia Gandhi. The court has sought answers from both of them on ED’s appeal.

This notice has been issued on the application filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which the agency had challenged the decision of the trial court, under which the money laundering case was dismissed.

Now the next hearing will be held in March

The trial court had said in its order that the case is already being investigated by the Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police, hence the case cannot be pursued further under the Money Laundering Act. ED had approached the High Court against this decision. Hearing this, the bench has issued notice to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and sought their reply. The next hearing of this case has now been scheduled for March 2026.

What are the serious allegations and the mathematics of money laundering?

ED has alleged in its charge sheet that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda and other leaders conspired together and committed money laundering. According to the agency, a company named Young Indian allegedly fraudulently took over the assets of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) worth about Rs 2,000 crore.

ED claims that the Gandhi family has 76 percent stake in Young Indian and this company took over the huge assets of AJL in exchange for a loan of just Rs 90 crore. The investigating agency has estimated the amount of income earned from crime in this entire case to be around Rs 988 crore. Delhi High Court can now hear this application of ED next week.
