National Productivity Day 2026: National Productivity Day is celebrated in India on February 12 every year. The day not only symbolizes increased efficiency but also serves as an important opportunity to highlight the importance of productivity in the economic development of a country. Organized by the National Productivity Council (NPC) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, National Productivity Week begins on February 12-18 across the country.

The primary objective of National Productivity Day is to create awareness about productivity, quality and efficiency in all sectors of the country. Productivity is not only about increasing output but also about achieving maximum and optimum results at minimum cost using available resources like labour, time, money and raw materials.

The day specifically encourages the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) agriculture and service sectors to improve their operations and adapt to global standards. With respect to 2026, as India progresses rapidly towards the goal of ‘Developed India by 2047’, the productivity of every citizen and organization plays an important role in the country’s GDP.

In the current era, the digital revolution and artificial intelligence (AI) have changed the definition of productivity. Campaigns like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ launched by the central government have taken industrial productivity to new heights. Now, through automation and smart manufacturing, time is being saved and human error is being reduced. This year’s events focus on how productivity can be increased without harming the environment. This is called ‘green productivity’, which is essential to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
