Country. A terrible havoc of nature is being seen in the south-eastern part of the South American country Brazil. Heavy rains and flash floods have caused widespread devastation in the state of Minas Gerais. So far 46 people have died, while 21 people are reported missing. Hundreds of families have been forced to leave their homes.
Devastation due to heavy rain and flash flood-
Due to continuous torrential rains, rivers are in spate and incidents of landslides have also been reported in many areas. Meteorologists have warned of more rain in the coming days, due to which the situation is expected to worsen.
Rescue operations have been intensified in the state. Rescue teams are busy taking people trapped in houses and towns covered with mud and debris to safe places.
3600 people became homeless-
About 3,600 people have been displaced by floods and landslides in the cities of Juiz de Fora and Uba, according to the state fire department. These two cities are located at a distance of about 110 kilometers. Authorities have confirmed that the death toll has risen to 46, while the search for the missing continues.
Sad atmosphere due to the death of 11 year old child-
The dead included 11-year-old Bernardo Lopes Dutra, whose house collapsed due to the rain. Her father Ricardo Dutra called it an unimaginable tragedy during the funeral, saying that no one had imagined such a disaster. He described his son as a big-hearted and everyone’s favorite child. His mother and sister are currently admitted in the hospital.
President gave relief instructions-
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said security forces and health workers had been deployed to the affected areas. He assured that the government is providing immediate assistance and medical services to the affected population.
Due to continuous rains in this area of hills and valleys, the situation remains serious and the administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations with full alertness.
