NC leaders wave Khamenei posters in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly; scuffle ensues after Rahul Gandhi is called Pappu

Political rhetoric intensified regarding Khamenei’s death, sloganeering and scuffles took place in the House.

Jammu. The atmosphere heated up in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Friday when political parties came face to face over the death of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Some National Conference MLAs reached the House carrying photographs of Khamenei and started raising slogans in his support. They waved posters and expressed solidarity with Iran. During this time, there was a heated debate between Congress and BJP MLAs in the House, which later reached the level of scuffle. The controversy started when Congress MLA Irfan Hafeez was raising slogans against the Prime Minister. In response, BJP MLA Yudhveer Sethi commented on Rahul Gandhi, which worsened the atmosphere and led to a scuffle between the two parties.

National Conference lawmaker Tanveer Sadiq said his party stands with Iran and condemns Khamenei’s killing. He also said that no country should have the right to attack another country and India’s top leadership should take a clear stand on this issue.

There have been reports of large-scale collection of donations in support of Iran in the Kashmir Valley. It is being told that around Rs 18 crore has been collected so far, out of which most of the contribution has come from the Shia community. The maximum amount of around Rs 9.5 crore has been collected from Budgam district. This amount is being raised through Zakat and Sadaka, the purpose of which is said to be to help the people affected by the conflict in Iran. However, security agencies are keeping an eye on this activity and are alert about possible misuse.
