Right to Disconnect Bill: The world of rapidly developing technology has completely unbalanced people’s lives. Even after reaching home, office work does not leave behind. Many times, employees become so upset with these calls and messages that they even decide to leave the job. To solve this problem, ‘Right to Disconnect Bill 2025’ has been introduced in the Lok Sabha, which has been brought by NCP MP Supriya Sule.

NCP MP Supriya Sule has introduced the Right To Disconnect Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha. The purpose of this bill is to give the employees the right to easily refuse calls, messages and emails coming after office hours and they should not face any kind of punishment or pressure for this.

What is special in Right to Disconnect Bill?

  • Employees will not be obliged to respond to calls, emails or messages after office hours.
  • You will get the right to postpone work related matters during holidays.
  • No disciplinary action will be taken against any employee for not responding.
  • This rule will apply to phone calls, texts, emails, video calls.
  • It is proposed to impose a fine of up to 1% on companies breaking the rules.

Arrangement of separate policy for emergency

It has also been provided in the bill that if a company has to contact an employee in an emergency, then both the parties can decide the rules for this in advance. That means every company will make its own emergency policy, but employee’s consent will be necessary. If an employee voluntarily works after office hours, he should also be paid overtime, the bill also suggests.

Pressure on people to respond immediately

In the bill presented, it has been said that digital work has made people into a habit of being ‘on’ all the time. Due to this, things like sleep, mental health, stress, and emotional fatigue are increasing. Even due to constantly checking messages, tele-pressure i.e. pressure to respond immediately has increased among people. Apart from this, info-obesity i.e. the habit of constantly monitoring messages has become a mental burden.
