NCP Releases First List of 11 Candidates for Delhi Polls | Read
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday announced its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Among those nominated are Mulayam Singh from Badli, who will contest against Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, Ratan Tyagi from Burari, Khalid Ur Rehman from Chandni Chowk, Mohammad Harun from Balli Maran, and Imran Saifi from Okhla.
The other candidates include Narendra Tanwar from Chhatarpur, Namaha from Laxmi Nagar, Jagdish Bhagat from Gokulpuri, Khem Chand from Mangolpuri, Rajesh Lohiya from Seemapuri, and Qamar Ahmad from Sangam Vihar.
The Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place in February 2025. In the meantime, the ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) has announced candidates for all 70 seats, while Congress has disclosed 47 candidates so far.
To prepare for the elections, the Election Commission recently held a meeting in central Delhi with representatives from various political parties. In attendance were BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha, and party leader Jasmin Shah. An official from the Election Commission noted that the meeting lasted about half an hour and addressed several issues. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also assessed the polling preparations for the upcoming Delhi elections.
The Election Commission stated, “CEC Rajiv Kumar, along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sandhu, is reviewing the readiness for the upcoming Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. A meeting with enforcement agencies is currently in progress. Earlier, the commission met with representatives of the political parties.” The term of the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to conclude on February 23, 2025.
