NDA’s strength in Rajya Sabha elections: Clean sweep by winning 5/5 seats in Bihar, shocking results in Haryana-Odisha too, know
Patna/Chandigarh/Bhubaneswar. On Monday, the results of voting for 11 Rajya Sabha seats from three states of the country—Bihar, Haryana and Odisha—have been declared. In Bihar, NDA performed brilliantly by winning all the five seats, while in Haryana and Odisha, cross voting and absence of MLAs completely changed the electoral equation.
Bihar: NDA’s dominance, changes certain after Nitish Kumar’s victory-
NDA made a clean sweep on five seats in Bihar and gave victory to all the candidates. The winners included Nitish Kumar (44 votes), Nitin Naveen (44 votes), Ramnath Thakur (42 votes), Upendra Kushwaha (42 votes) and Shivesh Ram.
Big upset: BJP’s Shivesh Ram won on the basis of second preference despite getting less votes in the first preference, due to which RJD’s Amarendra Dhari Singh had to face defeat.
Effect of infighting: Four MLAs of the Grand Alliance (three Congress and one RJD) did not participate in the voting, causing huge loss to the opposition.
Big political change: After Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha, the way has been cleared for the appointment of a new Chief Minister in Bihar.
Haryana: Close contest, BJP-Congress won one seat each.
The contest on two seats in Haryana was very exciting. BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia won one seat, while the other seat went to Congress’s Karmaveer Boudh.
Effect of cross voting: Two Congress MLAs cross voted and one vote was cancelled, yet the party managed to save its seat. BJP-backed independent candidate Satish Nandal had to face defeat.
Odisha: BJP leads amid uproar-
A lot of hustle and bustle was seen during the elections on four seats of Odisha. BJP’s Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar won, while NDA-backed independent Dilip Ray also emerged victorious. Biju Janata Dal had to be content with only one seat (Santrupta Mishra).
Ruckus: There were reports of scuffle between BJP and BJD MLAs during voting in Bhubaneswar.
Rajya Sabha Elections 2026: At a glance-
Elections were declared for a total of 37 seats.
26 candidates had already been elected unopposed
Voting for the remaining 11 seats took place on March 16.
These results have made it clear that while NDA is in a strong position in Bihar, the political equations are constantly changing in Haryana and Odisha.
