There is no athlete like Neeraj Chopra, American magazine considered him the world's best javelin thrower in 2024

Sports Desk: There is no athlete like India's best athlete and Paris Olympics silver medalist Neeraj Chopra. The American magazine named the javelin thrower as the best athlete of 2024. The world's famous American magazine 'Track and Field News' has considered him the world's best male athlete in javelin throw in 2024. Chopra, 27, has topped the California-based magazine's 2024 rankings.

He overtook two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada. Nadeem is fifth in the list because apart from the Olympics, he had participated in only one other competition, the Paris Diamond League, in which he finished fourth. In the Paris Olympics, he won the gold medal with a javelin throw of 92.97 metres, while Chopra won the silver medal with 89.45 metres.

The magazine has been published since 1948 and considers itself the Bible of sports. It publishes world and US rankings every year. Chopra also topped the men's javelin throw rankings for 2023. Chopra did not win any Diamond League event in 2024 and finished second in Doha, Lausanne and Brussels. His only major win last year was at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland.

“The battle for the top spot between Neeraj Chopra, who currently tops the rankings, and 2022 winner Anderson Peters was unclear,” the magazine wrote. Chopra had not won any Diamond League but due to his better performance in the Paris Olympics, he was ahead of Peters 3-2. Peters had finished third behind Nadeem and Chopra in the Paris Olympics. They won three Diamond League competitions in 2024, in Lausanne, Zurich and Brussels.

The magazine wrote about Nadeem, “What can you do about an Olympic gold medalist who competed in only one competition other than the Olympics and finished fourth in that.” Therefore it was decided that he could not be placed higher than number five.
