Sonipat: India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra reached Haryana today on Friday. Neeraj returned to India earlier this month after winning the silver medal in the Paris Olympics and performing brilliantly in the Diamond League final.

Injury update

Neeraj was injured during practice. After this, X-ray revealed that there was a fracture in the fourth metacarpal bone of his left hand. Due to this injury, he had to stay out of the field for the rest of this year. Talking about his injury, Neeraj said, “It is fine. Now the season is over, so he (his injury) will be fine.”

After failing to retain the gold medal against his arch-rival Arshad Nadeem at the Paris Olympics, Neeraj is not directly targeting the LA 2028 Olympics next. He wants to take it step by step and prepare for the next challenge after one challenge.

Neeraj said, “There is still a lot of time in LA 28; There will be a World Championship next year, so I will prepare for it. I wanted to come here and discuss how we can increase the number of medals.” During his recent performance at the Diamond League final, Neeraj started strong with a throw of 86.82m, placing him second behind Grenada's Anderson Peters, whose winning throw came in the opening round.

Diamond League and Paris Olympics

Julian Weber also gave his best performance in his first attempt in the Diamond League. Neeraj threw 83.49 metres, coming close to surpassing Peters in his third attempt, but missed by just 1 centimeter. His subsequent throws were measured at 82.04 metres, 83.30 meters and 86.46 metres.

Neeraj Chopra At the Paris Olympics, he won the silver medal with a best throw of 89.45 metres. Nadeem won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 metres, setting a new Olympic record and surpassing Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen's record set at Beijing 2008. Grenada's Anderson Peters won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 metres.
