New Delhi: There was a stir after the dead body of a 17 year old NEET student was found in a girls hostel in Patna. The name of the student is said to be Shruti Kumari. She was a resident of Samastipur district. According to the police, the body of the student was found hanging in the room. Initially it is being considered a case of suicide.
Talked to friends on Monday night
Hostel owner Abha Singh told that Shruti had dinner on Monday night and went to sleep. He also talked to some friends that night. She was very upset and crying during the conversation. Friends told that Shruti had said that her parents do not talk to her. Shruti was of calm nature. She was staying in the hostel to prepare for NEET. After completing the course, she went to the village and came back only about 10 days ago.
Dead body found after breaking the door
Shruti’s friend Anshu told that Shruti was not visible since Tuesday morning. There was no response when I knocked on his door. After pushing, the door opened and Shruti was found hanging inside. According to Anshu, Shruti was very upset at night and came to him crying. Friends had also explained it to him.
Relatives accused of harassing
According to the family, Shruti’s mother is a teacher and father is a farmer. Some relatives say that a boy was harassing Shruti for the last few days. Although Shruti never told anything about this to anyone.
The police have taken possession of the body and started investigation. It is being told that Shruti was living in this hostel since 2024. This hostel is in Secretariat Colony Road No. 2A/26 of Patrakar Nagar police station area.
A student also died in January
It is noteworthy that in January this year also, a NEET student was found unconscious in Shambhu Girls Hostel located in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna. He died during treatment. There was a lot of uproar in the matter. On January 09, 2026, the police had registered a case on the statement of the victim’s father.
The father had expressed suspicion of injury marks on his daughter’s body and wrongdoing. Since the deceased was a minor, the case was handed over to the POCSO court. Later, on the recommendation of Bihar government, the investigation was handed over to CBI. CBI is investigating under RC 07/2026.
