NEET UG 2026 Update: NTA Extends Exam Fee Refund Window to July 14; Re-Exam Results Due by July 20:
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an urgent public notice for all medical aspirants who appeared for the initially scheduled national entrance test. In a student-friendly move, the apex testing agency has officially extended the deadline for the confirmation, correction, and updating of bank account details for the NEET (UG) 2026 examination fee refund.
Eligible candidates now have until July 14, 2026 (up to 11:50 PM) to submit their banking information to ensure a direct electronic fund transfer.
Why NTA Reopened the Fee Refund Portal
This financial reimbursement initiative follows the official cancellation of the NEET UG exam scheduled for May 3, 2026, due to a widespread question paper leak and administrative irregularities. The NTA conducted a comprehensive re-examination (Re-NEET) on June 21 for over 20 lakh students at no extra charge, and the agency will fully refund the original application fees.
According to data released by the NTA, out of the massive turnout, a little over 10.28 lakh (1,028,223) candidates have successfully updated and verified their bank details so far. The NTA has already initiated direct bank transfers for these verified accounts in phases. The timeline extension gives the remaining students a final chance to secure their refunds and avoid transaction failures caused by incorrect account numbers or invalid IFSC codes.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Update Your Banking Info
To claim your processing refund, you must complete a secure verification sequence through the official examination portal:
- Visit the Dedicated NEET Registration Link: Official Portal Access.
Navigate directly to the official NTA portal at neet.nta.nic.in. Avoid third-party links or unofficial intermediary portals.
2. Complete Two-Factor Authentication: Secure Verification.
Log in using your unique Application Number and Date of Birth / Password. Complete the mandatory OTP-based two-factor authentication (2FA) sent to your registered mobile number or email.
3. Locate Account Confirmation Feature: Form Input.
Click on the link reading “Bank Account Details Confirmation / Updation” on your dashboard. Carefully fill in the account holder’s name, the full bank account number, the bank name, and the IFSC code.
4. Upload a Cancelled Cheque (Optional): Flawless Transaction Proof.
Though strictly optional, the NTA highly recommends uploading a clear digital copy of a cancelled cheque. This acts as visual verification to eliminate processing delays or system bounces. Review and submit.
Refund Structure by Category: The refund amount corresponds precisely to the initial fee paid: General category applicants will receive ₹1,700; OBC-NCL and EWS candidates will receive ₹1,600; while SC, ST, PwBD, and Transgender candidates will receive ₹1,000. Bank processing fees and original GST charges are non-refundable.
Re-NEET OMR Sheets, Final Answer Key, and Result Date
Concurrently, a senior official at the NTA confirmed that scanning of the June 21 Re-NEET OMR answer sheets is currently progressing on a war footing. We will host the individual performance sheets and provisional keys online in the second week of July. Students can then submit challenges at a non-refundable fee of ₹200 per question.
The final NEET UG 2026 results, rank cards, and revised final answer keys will be officially announced by July 20, 2026. The official said that even with the re-test schedule, the compilation timeline has been optimised to ensure that subsequent medical counselling sessions proceed smoothly without delaying the standard MBBS/BDS academic calendar. The generated data will also be natively shared with state entities and nursing boards for B.Sc. (H) Nursing admissions.
