Neeta Bhushan appointed as the new Ambassador of India to Poland

Neeta Bhushan, a 1994 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as the new Ambassador of India to the Republic of Poland.

Neeta Bhushan is currently serving as the High Commissioner of India to New Zealand and will soon take charge of her new appointment. India and Poland enjoy historic friendly relations, enriched by high-level political contacts and vibrant economic cooperation. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1954, and the Indian Embassy was opened in Warsaw in 1957.

Relations between India and Poland have been stable and friendly for many decades. Both countries had adopted similar ideological stances against colonialism, imperialism and racism. Even when Poland chose the democratic path, relations between the two countries remained strong. After Poland joined the European Union (EU) in 2004, relations between the two countries strengthened further, and Poland became an important economic partner of India.

high-level bilateral visits

High-level visits between India and Poland have also taken place regularly. From the Indian side, Presidents W V Giri (1970), Zail Singh (1986), S D Sharma (1996) and Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru (1955), Indira Gandhi (1967) and Morarji Desai (1979) had visited Poland. At the same time, prominent politicians from Poland have also visited India, including President Alexander Kswaniński (1998), Lech Walesa (1994 and 1998), Prime Ministers Sierkienkiewicz (1957) and Jaroszewicz (1973).

After the advent of democracy in Poland in 1990, bilateral relations were further strengthened and Polish President Aleksander Kswaniński (1998) and Prime Minister Leszek Miller (2003) visited India. In 2009, President of India Pratibha Patil visited Poland, while in 2010, Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk paid a state visit to India.
