From Co-Stars To Friends

Their camaraderie off-screen also grew stronger, leading to a friendship that laid the foundation for a romantic relationship. Despite the age difference, their connection was undeniable, and in 1980, after years of dating, they decided to tie the knot.
A Wedding Full Of Drama
While their wedding was a grand affair, Neetu Kapoor revealed a lesser-known, humorous story about the event in a later interview. According to the actress, the wedding was not without drama. In addition to the invited guests and family, a few strangers managed to sneak into the ceremony. Among them were some pickpockets who handed them stones and slippers as wedding gifts. She said, “Oh my god. There were pickpocketers at my wedding. They gave me gifts which had rocks and slippers inside. Because they were all dressed up and they entered my wedding, we thought they were guests. They crashed because it was such a huge wedding. We found rocks and slippers when we opened the gifts. It was so weird.”
However, the most amusing part of the wedding was the couple’s experience with brandy. Neetu Kapoor shared that Rishi Kapoor fainted after watching the crowd at their wedding. Hence, they started consuming brandy during the ceremony. As they struggled to stay conscious, they managed to complete the traditional pheras and were officially married. She said, “My husband was petrified of crowds, so before getting on the ghodi, he fainted. So, he was just having Brandy, I was having Brandy, that’s how our wedding was. I was drunk when I was taking the pheras.”
