“Nehru ji, will have to resign”: AAP takes a dig at BJP government over Ghazipur landfill fire

Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bhardwaj has taken a dig at the BJP government over the fire in Ghazipur landfill. The AAP leader shared a video on his social media handle, showing smoke rising from the landfill. Bhardwaj wrote, “Nehru ji, your MCD has set fire to the Ghazipur landfill. If the fire is not extinguished, you will have to resign from the post of mayor by evening.”

In the 34-second video, a man is heard saying that this is a mountain of garbage in Ghazipur, which is on fire. The area shown in the video extends to Mulla Colony, Ghazipur, Mayur Vihar Phase-3, Rajbir Colony and Khoda. He clarified that this is not smog, but smoke rising from the fire in the garbage dump.

The sarcasm that Aam Aadmi Party Delhi chief Saurabh Bhardwaj took by taking the name of Nehru ji was not without reason. In fact, BJP governments have often held the former Prime Minister responsible for various problems of the country, in this context Bhardwaj took a dig.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government is pushing to accelerate bio-mining and waste-to-energy projects to eliminate landfill sites. The government aims to completely clean these sites by December 2026 and plant trees on the vacant land and develop urban forests.

The situation of air pollution in Delhi-NCR has reached emergency level. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has remained in the severe category for the last several days. In view of this serious situation, Delhi government has taken several steps to control pollution.

From December 18, vehicles without valid Pollution Control Certificate (PUC) are not being given fuel at petrol pumps in Delhi. Apart from this, non-BS-6 vehicles registered outside Delhi have been banned from entering the capital. All offices have been ordered to ask 50 percent of their employees to adopt work from home arrangements.
