Nepal Buddha Air Accident: A major plane accident was averted at Nepal’s Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night. The Buddha Air plane coming from Kathmandu went about 200 meters ahead of the runway due to a technical fault at the time of landing. The lives of 55 passengers and crew members aboard the plane were at stake at that time. The matter of relief was that the plane stopped ahead of the runway and there was no major accident.
Tribhuvan International Airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa confirmed the incident and said that the flight was Buddha Air flight number 901, which was being operated by pilot Shailesh Limbu. The plane took off from Kathmandu at 8:23 pm on Friday night and was carrying a total of 55 passengers and four crew members.
How did the accident happen?
According to the spokesperson, the plane was landing at Bhadrapur airport at around 9:08 pm when suddenly a technical glitch occurred. During landing the aircraft lost balance and skidded about 200 meters beyond the runway. The plane eventually came to rest in a grassy area near the airstrip.
As soon as the plane left the runway, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the airport premises. Security agencies and airport authority personnel immediately reached the spot. After this, as a precaution, all the passengers and crew members on board the plane were evacuated safely.
Passengers and crew members narrowly escaped.
Rinji Sherpa said that no passenger or crew member was injured in this incident. However, the aircraft has suffered minor damage due to which it has been removed from flying service and has been sent for repair.
After the incident, operations at Bhadrapur Airport were affected for some time. The airport authority after controlling the situation inspected the runway and allowed further flights with necessary safety measures.
