Nepal will issue circular soon

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) spokesperson Guru Prasad Paudel said that we are preparing to publish a notification in Nepal Gazette regarding this. After that a circular will be issued to banks and financial institutions regarding the new rules. Paudel said that the official date of this new rule has not been decided yet, but the process is in the final stages. There was a demand in Nepal for a long time to remove the ban on high value Indian currency notes as it was causing losses to the tourism industry, especially the hospitality sector. Indian tourists were violating the rules without knowing, due to which many times they had to face arrest and fine.

Changes after RBI amendment

Currently, tourists visiting Nepal, including Indians, can bring up to $5,000 or its equivalent in convertible currency without declaration. Any amount exceeding this amount must be reported to customs, and tourists cannot take out more than $5,000. At present, India remains the biggest source of tourists for Nepal.
