Demand for Hindu king before elections

Monarchy supporters have increased their activism before the general elections to be held on March 5 in Nepal. During the press conference, Dr. Durga Prasai made it clear that he wants to create a ‘Hindu King’ They want the return of BJP and it will not be possible to hold elections without fulfilling their agenda. Supporters believe that since the end of the monarchy in 2008, the country has been struggling with political instability and economic troubles and without the king, the country is in crisis.

History of monarchy and journey of Gyanendra Shah

The 240-year-old monarchy in Nepal ended in 2008 when the Constituent Assembly declared the country a republic. Gyanendra Shah became king on June 4, 2001 after the tragic incident when Crown Prince Dipendra assassinated his father King Birendra and other family members. Gyanendra Shah’s reign was full of controversies. In 2005, he dissolved the Parliament and imposed emergency, after which the public movement of 2006 shook the foundation of his power.
