Thousands Protest In Nepal Against Minority Violence In Bangladesh: The increasing violence and brutal killings against the minority Hindu community in neighboring Bangladesh has now created a wave of anger in Nepal. Thousands of people in various cities of Nepal are taking to the streets to register their strong protest against these inhumane incidents.

The protesters have raised slogans against the interim government of Bangladesh and the Islamic fundamentalists operating there. People in Nepal demand that the safety of Bangladeshi Hindus should be ensured immediately and the culprits should be given strict punishment.

Echo of protest in major cities of Nepal

Huge demonstrations were held in major cities of Nepal like Birgunj, Janakpurdham and Golbazar on Friday and Saturday in protest against the mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das and murder of Amrit Mandal in Bangladesh. The protesters in Birgunj not only took out rallies but also expressed their anger against the Bangladeshi leadership.

In a demonstration under the banner of Rashtriya Ekta Abhiyan at Golbazar in Siraha district, the protesters blocked the East-West Highway for some time, bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

Opposition to false allegations and fundamentalism

The main anger of the protesters is against the mentality under which ‘blasphemy’ Hindus are being targeted by making false allegations. The brutality with which Dipu Chandra Das was murdered has shocked the Hindu society of Nepal.

District President of National Unity Campaign Hemant Singh said that their struggle and protests will continue until the Bangladesh government guarantees the safety of minorities. The people of Nepal believe that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, the influence of fundamentalism there has increased to a dangerous level.

Muslim community also condemned

A special feature of these protests taking place in Nepal is that the Muslim community here has also raised its voice against the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh. Bara and Parsa district committees of Jamiat Ulema-e Nepal took out a rally in Birgunj and demanded hanging of the killers of Dipu Chandra Das.

The protesters led by Maulana Ali Asghar Madani chanted “Hindu-Muslim unity zindabad” Raised slogans and strongly condemned the atrocities taking place in Bangladesh. This solidarity shows that every section of Nepal stands against violence.

People have appealed for international intervention, calling the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus a failure. There is also increasing pressure on the Nepal government to raise this issue at the diplomatic level so that the oppression of minorities in the neighboring country can be stopped.
