Nepal First Cabinet Meeting: Families of 27 students who lost their lives in Nepal student movement will get government jobs, appointment letters will have to be taken within 35 days.

Nepal First Cabinet Meeting: A new government has been formed in the mountainous country Nepal. After the student movement and change of power, Balendra Shah has become the new Prime Minister of Nepal. PM Balendra Shah and his 14 ministers, in the first cabinet meeting held on Friday after being sworn in by President Ramchandra Paudel, decided that the families of 27 students killed in the student movement will be given government jobs. There were student movements in Nepal in September 2025, due to which the ruling government of Nepal had to step down.

As soon as the decision was taken in the cabinet meeting, Nepal Electricity Authority under the Ministry of Energy has started the recruitment process. The authority has also issued a notice and released the list of selected members of the deceased students and their families. According to the government notice, one from the family of every deceased student will be given a job in their own district.

Appointment will be done on the basis of merit and skills. The affected families will have to get their relationships verified within 35 days and after that they will have to get appointment letters.

During the student movement on September 8, 2025, 19 students were killed on the spot in police firing. Many people were injured and were admitted to hospital. Eight of the same injured died during treatment in the hospital the next day. The movement started as a protest against the social media ban, which gradually turned into a widespread protest against corruption and the economic crisis.
