Man on Fire arrives later this month on Netflix

The Netflix release date for Man on Fire, starring Wonder Man’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is Thursday, April 30, 2026. The show’s trailer, released last month, promises an intense, action-packed ride.

The series is based on Philip Nicholson’s 1980 novel of the same name, which he wrote under his pen name A. J. Quinnell. Since the book’s release, there have been four film adaptations. Of the four, the 2004 Denzel Washington-led film is the best known.

The story centers on John Creasy, a former U.S. Army Special Forces operative, who is struggling with alcoholism and PTSD stemming from guilt over his past. To keep him occupied, a friend helps him secure a job as a personal bodyguard to a wealthy family. Over time, Creasy finds himself softening up to the family’s young daughter. When the girl is kidnapped, Creasy goes on a ruthless mission to save her at all costs.

Kyle Killen developed the show for Netflix. The series’ cast includes Abdul-Mateen II as John, Billie Boullet as Poe, Alice Braga as Valeria, Scoot McNairy as Henry, Paul Ben-Victor as Moncrief, and Bobby Cannavale as Paul Rayburn, among others.

Based on the trailer, the show appears to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In contrast, the events in the book are set in Milan, Italy. This change of location is similar to the one used for the 2004 film, which takes place in Mexico and alters some of the characters’ names. According to the official listing, the character names also seem to be altered to fit the new location in the series.

The series will be made up of seven episodes, all of which will stream on the same day. Reportedly, the show will also adapt the second novel in Quinnell’s series, The Perfect Kill, per The Hollywood Reporter.
