Netflix’s new interactive horror game, Unhingedstars Sadie Sink, Zoë Kravitz, and Troy Baker, and the creators express their feelings of luck over the cast.

The story follows Ava, voiced by Zoë Kravitz, as she struggles to survive after a Category 5 hurricane traps her inside an apartment building. Isolated from the outside world, she relies solely on phone conversations with her best friend Claire, voiced by Sadie Sink.

In a new Q&A session with Deadlinethe Netflix Games GM of Narrative Games, Sean Krankel, and Night School Studio Game Director, Sam Warner, talked about the cast and making of the game.

When the outlet brings up the topic of the star cast, Krankel said, “Very lucky.”

“So lucky,” Warner admitted.

Reflecting on the casting process, Krankel said joining Netflix gave the team access to the same casting professionals who work across the streamer’s film and television projects, making it easier to approach high-profile talent.

“We were pretty far along in developing the story and the mechanics,” he added, “so we had enough to go out to people. Troy is obviously game-fluent already, and it turns out Zoë and Sadie are too.”

Krankel explained that the project was pitched as “an immersive thriller” rather than “just a game or a branching TV show”, an approach that resonated with the actors.

He added that Kravitz and Sink’s vocal chemistry was crucial because the game is fundamentally “a friend story,” despite its intense thriller elements, praising the pair by saying they “killed it.”

Co-creator Warner also lauded Baker’s performance, describing the experience of working with the veteran voice actor in both the recording booth and motion-capture sessions as “such a privilege.”

He recalled that Baker improvised several memorable moments, including subtle gestures and physical comedy that elevated key scenes.

Unhinged launches exclusively for Netflix subscribers on June 30, placing players at the centre of an immersive thriller-turned-horror experience that uses a mobile phone as the primary game controller.
