New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman on Wednesday (November 20, 2024) took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce his separation from his wife Saira Banu. The celebrity duo has parted ways after 29 years of marriage.
The 47-year-old composer wrote that they wished to complete the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. He added that even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts.
Calling the situation shattering, AR Rahman further wrote that they now seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. He also extended gratitude to his friends for their kindness and for respecting their privacy as they walk through this fragile chapter. In a joint statement, their divorce lawyer Vandana Shah said AR Rahman and Saira Banu went ahead with the decision to separate after ‘significant emotional strain in their relationship’.

In a bizarre conclusion to the X post, AR Rahman ended it with ‘#arrsairaabreakup’. This did not sit well with social media users. Netizens were left puzzled and confused by the usage of the hashtag and started questioning it.
“Who creates a hashtag for this situation? Fire your admin, thalaiva,” commented an internet user. Another wrote, “Why a hashtag after this? Are you out of your mind?”
