Neve Campbell Horror Sequel Is Best Enjoyed Knowing This Beforehand

With Scream 7 coming out this weekend, there are a few things that fans of the franchise might want to know before walking into the theater.

Paramount Pictures’ Scream 7 arrives in United States theaters this weekend. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the seventh Scream sequel sees Neve Campbell reprise her role as Sidney Evans, while the cast also includes Isabel May as Tatum Evans, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and more.

“When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target,” the synopsis reads. “Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”

What should people know about Scream 7 beforehand?

Scream 7 currently has a 43 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoeswhich makes it the worst-reviewed Scream movie thus far. Therefore, die-hard fans of the franchise might want to adjust their expectations beforehand.

News’s Jonathan Sim gave the movie a 6 out of 10 score, which equates to “decent.” While Sim said that there are some exciting slasher sequences in Scream 7, the movie also doesn’t have a “great reveal” as the motivation behind the killer isn’t all that compelling.

“It simply does the job, but it’s one of the weakest reveals in the franchise, especially compared to the reveals of Scream 1, 4, and 5, which are by far my favorite,” Sim wrote.

Additionally, Sim said that Scream 7 doesn’t rely on nostalgia as much as some of the other Scream movies do. He explained, “There’s a tiny bit, but it does lose one of the key ingredients that make this franchise so smart from time to time. That may be the biggest disappointment because it can feel like a more generic slasher without that ingredient.”

Thursday night showings of Scream 7 begin tonight.
