Be cautious of new type of fraud, Reliance Jio warns

In this series, Reliance Jio has warned its customers about a new type of scam. Jio has issued an advisory saying that this fraud is done through missed calls from international numbers. If someone calls back on these missed calls, he has to pay heavy charges.
Danger of premium rate service scam
Reliance Jio has warned its customers through email. The email states that never call back on missed calls from unknown international numbers. These numbers are associated with premium rate services, which charge exorbitant fees per minute of calls. Even a call of a few seconds can burn a hole in your pocket.
How does this scam work?
In this scam, fraudsters make repeated missed calls from international numbers. When someone calls back on these numbers, he or she is connected to the premium service. After this the caller may have to pay a charge of up to Rs 100 per minute. Fraudsters often make these calls at night or early in the morning, so that people unknowingly get trapped.

Ways to avoid this scam
- Block suspicious numbers: If you are receiving repeated calls from a suspicious number, block it immediately.
- Do not call back: Never call back a missed call from unknown international numbers.
- Identify the number: If a number is not preceded by +91, it may be an international number.
- Register complaint: Immediately report suspicious numbers to the local administration.
Alert the people around you, especially children and the elderly, about this type of fraud.
