“Never write off champions”: Justin Langer backs under pressure Indian batter for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2O24
Former Australia player Justin Langer is backing under pressure India batter Virat Kohli to score runs in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Kohli hasn’t enjoyed his outing in 6 Test matches this season and scored just 93 runs in six innings against New Zealand.
Kohli has amassed 250 runs in 6 red-ball contests at an average of 22.72. Speaking to the West Australian, Langer mentioned that Kohli will fight back in the matches.
“You never write off champions, because they are champions for a reason. Pressure on the Indian players is always intense as cricket is followed by one and a half billion people, and they expect excellence. It will be interesting to see how India fight back,” he told The West Australian.
Langer is waiting to see the Indian team play in Australia. He feels that people would be happy to see Kohli’s batting, especially if it is his last series in Australia.
“People are writing off Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for being old. I can’t wait to see them play in Australia. It is the last time Virat is going to play Down Under and people will enjoy his batting because he is a star. Rohit, Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah are also superstars. Australian bowlers are also seniors and they are not going to be around forever,” he added.
In 13 Tests, Virat scored 1352 runs, with an average of 54.08 in Australia.
