New DCU Villain Actor Revealed by James Gunn
James Gunn has revealed a new DC Universe villain that will be making their way into the upcoming universe when Creature Commandos previews later this year.
Who is the new DCU villain?
In a recent post on Instagram, actor Benjamin Byron Davis revealed that he would be playing the role of Rupert Thorne in the upcoming animated series. In a screenshot, Davis shared a comment he left on one of Gunn’s photos, to which Gunn replied, “Hi Rupert Thorne.”
“Thrilled to be able to share I’ll be bringing Rupert Thorne to the DCU alongside the absolutely remarkable ensemble James Gunn has assembled for Creature Commandos,” said Davis in his post.
In the world of DC Comics, Rupert Thorne is a crime boss and often appears as an antagonist to Batman. He first appeared in a May 1977 issue of Detective Comics and was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Walt Simonson.
“Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans,” the logline for the series reads. “When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.”
The series’ voice cast includes Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot and Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation produce Creature Commandos, while Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register also serve as executive producers alongside Gunn. Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer.
Creature Commandos premieres on December 5, 2025, as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
