Delhi’s 23rd Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. This was Sandhu’s first meeting with PM Modi after taking oath as Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday. On March 5 this year, he was given the responsibility of Delhi, while his predecessor VK Saxena was appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Sandhu has also shared the picture of this meeting on social media platform X.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is a seasoned Indian diplomat dealing with US affairs. He has served several times in the Indian Embassy in Washington and was India’s Ambassador to the US from February 2020 to January 2024. Apart from this, 63-year-old Sandhu also served in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations from July 2005 to February 2009. His experience has given him special expertise in India’s foreign policy and international relations. Taranjit Singh Sandhu had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket from Amritsar constituency in Punjab. However, he could not win this election.

Also met Delhi Cabinet

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet colleagues met Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu at Lok Niwas on Tuesday. During this, he informed them about various initiatives and schemes of Delhi Government. Apart from this, the Lieutenant Governor also held a meeting with the Police Commissioner and Special Commissioners of Delhi. They appreciated their efforts to maintain law and order in Delhi and discussed the challenges ahead.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has held a series of meetings with top officials of various departments within a week of assuming the post of Lieutenant Governor. In these meetings he discussed in detail important issues related to governance and development. Sandhu also participated in the ‘National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) Global Confluence 2026’ held in the national capital and delivered the keynote address on the topic ‘Role of Technology in Nation Building’.

In his first program in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the future of the country’s development is digital, but humanity should remain in it. Recalling his long association with NASSCOM during his tenure as a diplomat in the US, he said it was fitting that the ‘Global Confluence’ organized by the association is one of his inaugural events.

Sandhu said that history teaches us that nations are built on the foundation of stone, steel and sweat. But the nature of nation building has changed in 2026. Today’s most critical infrastructure is often not visible; It exists in fiber-optic cables, the functioning of algorithms, and the seamless flow of data. He also posted on the ‘X’ platform, saying he stressed the transformative role of innovation, digital infrastructure and technology in building an inclusive and future-ready India.
