New-Generation Hyundai i20 Interior Spied

Hyundai India plans to commence 26 launches by 2030 and the new-generation i20 is known to be part of it. The i20 has been very popular in India, and its next generation will come with a lot of changes. The outgoing generation was launched in 2020 and got facelifted in 2023. The generational update is expected sometime this year. Now, a new set of spy shots have been shared online by Autospyshowing it undergoing winter testing, likely in Korea. This time, portions of the cabin are visible, although with camouflage.

New-Generation i20: Interior Spied

The i20 will get a major cosmetic overhaul. The exterior styling, cabin design and feature list will all change significantly. This is the first time that we have an image of the car’s interior. It is seen with heavy camouflage. Almost everything is kept hidden. We can, however, see fabric seats finished in what looks like a shade of Dark Grey.

We can also see a manual shifter and a conventional parking brake. If all variants of the new i20 would stay clear of electronic parking brake remains unclear. The one shown here doesn’t have it anyway. The steering wheel looks new and most likely has Hyundai’s Morse code logo on it.

The most important detail to take note of is the large screen cluster. Going by these spy pictures, the new i20 will come with a curved display cluster. This will most likely have two individual screens housed smartly in a single large bezel, Since they are turned off in the pictures it is difficult to confirm. This is, however, a layout that we have been seeing in multiple recent launches from Hyundai, including the second-generation Venue. These displays will function as the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. Their actual sizes remain unclear as well.

Expected Exterior Styling Changes

As can be seen in these spy shots, the exterior will get a slightly more upright design. The car will get a new front fascia. The headlamp cluster, front bumper, DRL design and grille are all expected to change. The heavy camouflage on the car makes it difficult to guess the details of these changes.

Previous renders had suggested that the bonnet will get a cleaner design on the upcoming car. Another interesting detail to note on the camouflaged mule is the rake of the A-pillar. It is steeper than that of the outgoing car.

These images do not show a clear side view of the new i20. We can, however, deduce that it will have a different silhouette compared to the outgoing model. The A, B and C pillars look slightly more upright than those of the predecessor. The window line has been revised, and there are likely other sheet metal changes that the camouflage manages to hide in these images.

The window line seems to rise as it moves toward the rear of the vehicle, and there’s even a visible kink in the C-pillar. The C-pillar itself appears to be much steeper than that of the current model, and the unique design of the window line and side profile manages to keep the onlooker’s attention away from this rake. The flared wheel arches may feature Black cladding on the production model. The mule is seen with a set of new, stylish alloy wheels.

In another spy shot, we can see the camouflaged rear of the vehicle. The rear hatch appears to have been redesigned. The rear bumper and tail lamp cluster will also be new. We can see parking sensors at both the front and rear. Look carefully and you will notice side sensors as well. These will be of great use on the production car.

Overall, the next-generation i20 seems to lean more towards crossovers with its design and proportion, and from the spy pictures and renders that have surfaced so far, it is a change that we would all welcome.
