New initiative of UP government: Center of knowledge will be built in villages
Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big and visionary step towards empowering the youth of rural areas. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the plan to establish digital libraries in thousands of gram panchayats of the state has been approved. The objective of this scheme is to provide high quality education to village students and modern resources for preparation of competitive examinations, so that they do not have to migrate to cities for studies.
Modern place of education in every village
Under this scheme, digital libraries will be created in 11,350 gram panchayats of the state. These libraries will not be limited to books only, but will be developed as a multi-learning centre. Here students will be able to prepare for UPSC, PCS, SSC, Banking, Railways and other competitive examinations by staying in the village itself.
Knowledge center will be ready for Rs 4 lakh
The state government is spending about Rs 4 lakh on each digital library. This amount will be used in a planned manner. Books related to competitive exams and general studies will be purchased with Rs 2 lakh. Computer, internet connection and IT equipment will be installed for Rs 1.30 lakh. Comfortable furniture and seating arrangements will be made for studying at a cost of Rs 70 thousand. In these centres, along with printed books, e-books, video lectures, audio classes and more than 20 thousand digital study materials will be available to the students.
Command will be in the hands of Gram Panchayat
The digital library will be operated at the local level. The village head and panchayat secretary will oversee it, while district and mandal level officials will monitor it from time to time. This will ensure that the resources are utilized properly and the library is actually useful to the students.
Work started in 35 districts in the first phase
In the first phase of this ambitious scheme, the process of selection of books has been completed in 35 districts of the state. These include districts like Lucknow, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Amroha, Azamgarh, Ballia, Bareilly, Bijnor, Fatehpur, Rae Bareli, Sitapur, Moradabad.
