New law related to Insolvency Code will give impetus to ‘Reform Express’: Anurag Thakur
‘Instead of destroying the companies, the central government has worked to save them’
New Delhi, 25 March (Language) BJP MP Anurag Thakur said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the bill brought to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code ‘Reform Express‘ Will get more momentum and India’s economy will become stronger.
While participating in the discussion on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill-2025, Thakur said that the Narendra Modi government at the Center has worked to save and promote companies instead of liquidating them. He said that this bill will give further impetus to the ‘Reform Express’ and strengthen India’s economy.
The BJP MP claimed that asset quality assessment of banks was never done during the previous UPA government and the work to clean the books was done after the Modi government came to power at the Centre. He mentioned that before 2004, the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) were 16 percent, which was reduced to 7.8 percent by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and then the Congress (UPA) government left it at 12.3 percent. Modi government has reduced it to 2.3 percent.
He said that the Amendment Bill is a powerful engine to take forward the ‘Reform Express’, it is an engine of investor confidence and economic justice. Targeting the opposition Rahul Gandhi, he said that these people are NPA. Let’s talk about those who have the largest NPA in the history of demography, who are not able to perform. Thakur said that we are going to amend the law after 10 years. The Select Committee has given its report after talking to all the stakeholders in the last 3 years.
