New Labor Law 2026: Your style of working will change! 4 days duty and more PF, know 5 important things about the new labor code

New Delhi: A big change is knocking for crores of employed people and workers of India. The Central Government has prepared 4 new Labor Codes by consolidating 29 decades old and complex labor laws. The objective of these rules is not only to make it easier for companies to do business, but also to provide social security and rights to employees in line with the 21st century. According to the latest update of March 12, 2026, with the implementation of these laws, everything from your salary to holidays is going to change.1. In hand salary will decrease, but future will be secure. The biggest impact of the new labor code will be on your pay slip. According to the new rules, your basic salary should be at least 50 percent of your total CTC. Benefit: By increasing the basic salary, the share of your PF (Provident Fund) and gratuity will increase. Effect: Due to high deduction in PF, your net take home salary may be slightly less, but at the time of retirement you will get a huge amount. 2. Option of ‘4-day work week’: 3 days leave! The government is giving flexibility to companies to create a work-life balance. New rule: If companies wish, they can adopt the model of 4 days work and 3 days leave in a week. Condition: However, the rule of total work of 48 hours a week will remain intact. This means that if you work for 4 days, you will have to do 12 hours of duty every day.3. Gig workers get legal rights for the first time. Till now, delivery partners and drivers working on platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Ola and Uber did not get the status of ’employee’. Change: For the first time in the new labor code, these ‘gig workers’ have been brought under the ambit of social security. The government is going to make schemes like accident insurance, health benefits and old age protection mandatory for them.4. Big relief in leave rules. The new laws have also shown leniency regarding leaves of employees. Earlier, the eligibility for ‘Earned Leave’ (EL) was available only after working for 240 days in the first year, which is now proposed to be reduced to 180 days. Apart from this, the process of ‘encashing’ the remaining leaves at the end of the year has also been simplified.5. Safe and equal opportunities for women: New labor laws allow women to work in night shifts (between 7 pm to 6 am), but for this the company has to ensure their safety and consent. Also, the rule of Equal Pay for Equal Work will be enforced more strictly.
