With the passage of the Gharauni Law Bill, the Gharauni has gained the status of an official and legal document. Earlier it was issued only under administrative process, but now it has been recognized like Khatauni of agricultural land. In this, the process of changing name and record correction for various reasons like inheritance, sale, succession has been simplified. There is also a provision to update the mobile number, address and other details entered in Gharauni.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh, while mentioning this law in the Assembly, said that it has been brought under the Prime Minister’s Ownership Scheme of the Central Government to give legal recognition to ownership records based on drone technology. This law will ensure the preservation of household records and timely registration of new records.

The Minister mentioned that the main objective of the Swamitva Yojana is to prepare solid documents of the residential properties of the villagers by conducting proper surveys in the villages. With this, villagers will be able to avail loans, insurance and other financial facilities from banks on the basis of their houses and land. Additionally, availability of accurate land records will improve property tax determination, GIS mapping and development plans of Gram Panchayats.
