Crores of citizens of the country are troubled by the shortage of LPG and now they are shifting towards PNG. Yesterday, from May 1, 2026, the government has changed the rules of LPG booking and distribution, which has been implemented across India. In such a situation, it is very important for you to know about these new rules before booking the cylinder.

What is the new rule?

The government has changed the rules for those consumers who have two connections of LPG gas cylinder. Apart from this, it has also been said by the government that if a person has an LPG connection and PNG pipeline facility is also available in his area, then he will have to surrender his LPG gas cylinder. If they do not do this, they will not be able to get LPG cylinder in future. Besides, it has also been made mandatory for all consumers to update KYC.

KYC mandatory

Under the new rules, it has now become mandatory to get LPG KYC done. If you also have an LPG gas connection, then complete the KYC process as soon as possible, otherwise you will not be given the cylinder from the gas agency and you may have to face problems. Apart from this, the authorities have clarified that consumers who have already done KYC, do not need to do it again.

Gas cylinder will not be available without OTP

OTP based delivery has also been made mandatory from May 1. At the time of booking, customers will receive an OTP on their registered mobile number, which is mandatory to be given at the time of delivery. Now gas cylinder will not be available without sharing OTP.

More problems for these consumers

The biggest problem is for those consumers who had done KYC last year in 2025 or whose KYC records are still incomplete. According to reports, it has become mandatory for those families who had got their LPG cylinder refilled before June 2025, to get KYC done again. In case KYC is not completed, you will not be able to book the cylinder.

What should consumers do now?

  • Go to your gas dealer and get Aadhaar e-KYC done.
  • Check whether your correct mobile number is linked to the gas connection or not.
  • To get gas subsidy, link Aadhaar with bank account.
  • If you have multiple or redundant old connections, close them.
  • Find out if PNG facility has started in your area.
