Preservation, revival and cultural revival of Mumbai’s rich textile heritage is the main objective behind this grand project. This is an attempt to preserve the historical heritage of the mill area of Mumbai, which was once known for textile mills, in a new form. The project is being implemented in association with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, National Textile Corporation (NTC) and JSW Foundation. This mill yard with an area of about 4000 square meters will be transformed into a world-class cultural center in the future.
The museum will have attractive galleries, art studios, performance spaces, open-air sculpture gardens, restaurants and cafes, as well as separate sections for workshops and cultural events. The museum will be developed under the ‘Living Museum’ concept, preserving the industrial heritage of the old mill and combining modern technology and presentation. Therefore, this center will be an inspiration for tourists, researchers, students and artists as well.
The entire work of the project will be done by JSW Foundation on a non-profit basis and the income from the museum will be used for maintenance, preservation and various public activities. Through this, there is an effort to strengthen the cultural sector in the long term.
