New order of Maharashtra government, ‘Global’ or ‘International’ will no longer be used in the names of schools
Maharashtra government has taken an important decision with the aim of increasing transparency in the education sector and protecting parents from being misled. The state government has clarified that now those schools which do not meet the prescribed eligibility standards will not be able to use words like international or global in their name. According to official sources, the purpose of this decision is to eliminate any kind of confusion regarding the actual educational status of schools.
School Education Department of Maharashtra issued instructions
The School Education Department of Maharashtra has issued guidelines to all district and local education officers in this regard. Officials have been asked to examine the newly proposed schools as well as the already running institutions and ensure that the new naming rules are strictly followed. Schools whose names already have words like international or global attached to them will also be reviewed.
Under the new rules, a school will be allowed to use such words in its name only if it meets certain criteria. These mainly include the school having a campus outside India or offering a recognized international curriculum. If any school does not fulfill these conditions and still uses such words in its name, it will be instructed to change the name.
The Education Department has also made it clear that regulatory action can be taken against schools that ignore the rules. This may include a name change order as well as a detailed investigation. The government believes that this step will bring discipline in the education system and create clarity regarding the actual qualifications of schools.
Trend of adding words like global and international
It is noteworthy that in recent years, the trend of adding words like global and international in the names of schools has increased rapidly. In many cases these terms are used only for the sake of attraction, while the teachings and curriculum of the schools are entirely local. This gives parents the illusion that their child is getting international level education, whereas the reality is something else.
Keeping this growing confusion in mind, the Maharashtra government has taken this decision. Education experts believe that if this decision is strictly implemented, the gap between the names of schools and their educational quality will become clear. This will help parents in taking decisions based on correct information and will also strengthen their faith in the education system.
