New record of revenue in UP: CM reviewed… More than Rs 1.96 lakh crore collection by February 2026, gave strict warning regarding sale of illegal liquor on Holi

Lucknow, Read: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while reviewing the tax and non-tax revenue receipts till the end of February of the financial year 2025-26 in a high-level meeting on Friday, said that till now a revenue of more than Rs 1.96 lakh crore has been collected. Revenue has increased in every sector including GST-VAT-Transport with 13% more income from excise. He instructed all the departments to intensify their efforts towards the target. In view of Holi, Yogi stressed on strict action against illegal liquor along with land record digitization and better bus services.

During the review, Chief Minister Yogi, while assessing the targets and achievements presented by the GST, VAT, Excise, Stamp and Registration, Transport, Energy, Land Revenue and Mining departments, said that the increase in revenue determines the pace of development works in the state. He directed all the departments to intensify efforts to achieve the target with transparency, efficiency and innovation-based methodology.

It was informed in the meeting that the annual target of tax revenue for the current financial year is set at ₹2.95 lakh crore, against which a receipt of ₹1,96,177 crore has been recorded till February 2026. The Chief Minister said that the continuous increase in revenue is giving impetus to infrastructure, social welfare schemes, employment generation and industrial development in the state. The annual target of the Excise Department is ₹63,000 crore, against which revenue of ₹48,501 crore has been received till February. This is 13.2 percent more than the same period last year. A roadmap for additional receipts of about ₹9,050 crore has been presented in March. In view of the Holi festival, the Chief Minister directed to adopt zero tolerance on the manufacture and sale of illegal and poisonous liquor.

The Chief Minister said that instructions were given to speed up the process of land record digitization and modernization of registry offices. Instructions were given to the administration to ensure the fitness of the buses of the Transport Corporation, to start bus services with the help of private sector by identifying new routes and to remain alert regarding law and order and excise control during Holi.

Strong contribution from GST-VAT

The annual target of state tax (GST VAT) is ₹1,75,725 crore, against which ₹1,03,770 crore was collected till February. This includes ₹75,195 crore from GST and ₹28,575 crore from VAT. Officials said that GST 2.0, AI based risk analysis, e-invoicing, effective monitoring of e-way bills and control on fake ITC have led to significant improvement in tax compliance. These efforts have resulted in additional recovery of ₹3,117 crore so far.

Strength in stamp, transport and mining also

The Stamp and Registration Department recorded receipts of ₹29,487 crore till February against the target of ₹38,150 crore. The Transport Department earned revenue of ₹11,005 crore against the target of ₹14,000 crore. At the same time, the Mining Department collected ₹3,597 crore till February against the target of ₹6,000 crore, while additional receipt of about ₹600 crore is estimated in March.
