Ration card: The Government of India has decided to bring many important changes in the free ration card scheme from January 1, 2025. It aims to provide food security to poor and needy families in a more effective and transparent manner. Under the new system, ration cards are being digitized and all beneficiaries will have to undergo e-KYC.
Need for digitization and e-KYC
All ration card holders will be required to link their ration card with Aadhaar and complete the e-KYC process by December 31, 2024. This move will put an end to fake ration cards and improve relief delivery to the truly needy. .
Benefits of the digital ration system
The ration distribution system is becoming more efficient through digital platforms. This will make it easier to identify fake ration card holders and take action against them. Additionally, this system will help deliver rations to the beneficiaries at their place of residence.
New income limit and eligibility criteria
The government has set the annual income limit at Rs 3 lakh in urban areas and Rs 2 lakh in rural areas. Also, families owning four-wheelers will be deprived of the benefits of the scheme.
Increased transparency and accountability
The new system will increase transparency and accountability. Ration card holders will be monitored regularly through digital monitoring and immediate action will be taken as soon as any irregularity is detected.
